The House of Nines Lookbook A/W 2013

urlHello beautiful makeup lovers!

As some of you may or may not know I took the jump and moved to big, bad London a few months ago. I did this so that I could focus on getting my makeup artist career headed for bigger things…in particular, LFW. Becoming a successful makeup artist is certainly not something that happens overnight and takes a lot of self motivation, hard work ( a lot of this is unpaid) and long hours. Its is completely and utterly worth it though when you can do a job that you LOVE. How many people can honestly say that they love their job??

Moving to London has been like starting at square one again, I had no contacts and no one knew of me……. So, the last few months have consisted of me searching everyday online for work so that I could begin networking here in London. Its not been easy but it is finally starting to pay off with the help of a few recommendations- word of mouth if my best friend. One of the most exciting shoots recently was for a front cover of Flawless Women Magazine. MY FIRST FRONT COVER!! My next step is to find an agency to represent me, I have just finished putting together my portfolio and emailing a few agencies to set up a meet……fingers crossed.

Anyway, enough of my rambling on!!! One of the photoshoots that I have done since moving to London was with 2 very talented designers who set up, The House of Nines. The photoshoot was for their A/W lookbook and since The House of Nines had recently shown in LFW Collections I was really excited to get the chance to work with them. Here is a small bit about them-

‘The House of Nines ensures superior quality in the architecture and execution of its every piece. House creators Ross Paul Keenan and Shamrez Marawat challenge the perception of British Menswear to arrive at a long-awaited rebirth of the form. Industrial landscapes inform sharply engineered silhouettes and muted tones.’

How to create sultry eyes and 1st makeup review of 2013!

543543_342910972446777_2039395748_n

Ciao, gorgeous makeup lovers! Recently I filmed a makeup tutorial teaching you how to create a stunning sultry, smokey, brown eye. The photo opposite was from makeup that I applied at a photoshoot for designer RowanJoy. This tutorial is perfect for those all important dates and parties that you have planned in 2013…….. WOW, 2013, its seems crazy that another whole year has flown by. Last year for me was amazing, as I travelled around the world…..sadly this did mean my beauty blog suffered. However, I am now back and ready to keep you updated with the latest beauty trends and makeup reviews. I have also just recently moved to London so I am hoping I will have lots of exciting photoshoots to share with you as well.

So….my first review of 2013 is the makeup that I used in this makeup tutorial. Lets get started!

First up is Ingot eyeshadow, I have already done a review of this makeup brand but I love it so much I thought I would share one of my favourite eyeshadow brands with you again! Inglot have about 200 different eyeshadows to choose from and every finish imaginable. I used 3 eyeshadows from the matte range for my makeup tutorial and they are so fantastic to work with! Highty pigmented, blend beautifully and have amazing staying power. At only £4.50 per eyeshadow you can make your own palette up for a fraction of the price of high end makeup brands. P1110946

Matte 360        Matte 365             Matte 329

P1110947

Introducing……. Maybelline 24hr cream eyeshadow in ‘On and on bronze’!! I love these SUPER DUPER long lasting cream eyeshadows. At £4.99 they are really affordable and I would compare them to Estee Lauder Double Wear cream eyeshadows. I love using these as a base before blending in my powder eyeshadows on top, this way eyeshadow lasts all day and night and stays looking perfect! These cream eyeshadows are great if you have oily eyelids as they will not crease.

P1110938

Next up is the new and AWESOME Sleek blusher palettes…….. I have one called Lace which has 3 amazing colours in. For £9.99 you can get 3 beautiful blushers that have great pigmentation, go onto the skin very evenly and give a gorgeous flushed look to the cheek. This is a bargain that you can’t live without! My favourite is the colour Crochet.

Chantilly                     Guipure                  Crochet

Lastly, I have fallen in love with the Caresse range of lipsticks from L’oreal. These are super creamy lipsticks that act more like a tinted lipbalm providing a hint of colour an instantly hydrate your lips. They come in many different colours….. I had so much trouble choosing only 3! I would have all of them if possible.

Rose Mademoiselle 04, Aphrodite Scarlet 06, Cheeky Magenta 07

Favourite winter lipsticks!!!

P1110667

Hello makeup loves!

I can’t believe that it is already November, this year has gone so fast. As many of you will know I have spent the last year travelling around the world…..finally though I am back! I love winter- except for the cold weather- and I love that makeup wise you can start wearing deep, dark lipsticks. So, I thought I would tell you my favourite purple lipsticks for this winter and the great thing about most of these lipsticks is that they can be found in most Boots and Superdrug stores and accommodate for every budget!

First up is the new Maybelline Super Stay 14hr Lipstick in ‘Always Plum’, this lipstick lasts forever without drying out your lips and has a nice creamy texture. This is a matt plum colour and looks great alone or teamed with a lipgloss.

P1110706P1110709

Up next is Revlon, and their AMAZING deep purple lipstick in ‘Va va violet’. I have used this lipstick on many photoshoots because the colour is so intense and beautiful. this is not long lasting so be aware that you will need to re-apply. This colour looks amazing on dark skin tones. I have included a photo from a shoot that I used this lipstick on.

Another great purple lipstick is another one by Maybelline from the ColourSensational range. The colour is ‘Midnight Plum 338’, and this is a slightly lighter plum colour than the deep Revlon. This colour differs dependent on skin tone and lip colour so be sure to try before you buy. This lipstick has very small flicks of shimmer through it and looks very pretty on lips for parties.

P1110711P1110712

My last favourite lipstick is one from my Inglot palette, number 85. This is a long lasting lipstick with a semi-matt finish, highly pigmented this lipstick it fantastic for photoshoots. All of the Inglot lipsticks have a beautiful creamy texture to them and they feel lovely on your lips. Mmmmm……

P1110717P1110718

Moving onto lipgloss I recently discovered this beautiful creamy gloss by Laura Mercier in ‘Mauve Plum’. It looks fantastic on top of the 14hr Maybelline lipstick from above. Purple lipgloss is great if you are a bit uncertain about statement lips as they are a lot sheerer than lipstick.

P1110720P1110725

Finally Shu Uemura have a fantastic dark purple, very sheer lipgloss thats perfect for giving a high shine to a matt lipstick. The colour is 059N. It smells yummy too……

I have a new makeup tutorial showing you how to match your eye shadow to dark statement lips, check it out below and be sure to leave me comments about your favourite purple lipstick.

My FAVOURITE product this month is one that I am wearing in this photo and its the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain. This lip balm is awesome and I am definitely going to be picking up more colours to take with my to Asia. I have a beautiful pink/purple colour called ‘Darling’ which is a gorgeous summer colour and brightens up my day! Similar to the Clinique Chubby Sticks but cheaper and I think, better, here is why I love this product so much…….

revlon lip stains -It doesn’t dry out my lips like other stains tend to do

-The creamy texture lasts up to 2 hours!

-The colour range is awesome

My next LOVE of this past month has been the ColourTattoo 24hr Cream Eyeshadow by Maybelline. I bought ‘Permanent  Taupe’ an awesome everyday matt shade and by everyday, I mean EVERYDAY! I can’t get enough of this creamy eyeshadow! It makes my morning makeup routine super quick as I can just blend this quickly all over my eyelid and add a darker powder shadow in my crease line and I am good to go.  Why do I love this product…..

Maybelline-Eye-Studio-color-tattoo-24hr-cream-gel-shadow– Long lasting and waterproof!

-Smudgeproof and doesn’t crease

-Easily blendable with powder eyeshadows

-Looks fantastic used on its own

-Creamy texture that’s easy to apply with fingers or a synthetic brush

-Awesome pigmented colour range

In my July Favourites video I am wearing both these products and my favourite look of this month! Comment if you would like a makeup tutorial on how I did my makeup…….

SPRING FASHION……..

After spending the winter bundled up in boots and parkas, the refreshing colors and textures of spring afford as much delight as the warm breezes by which they are accompanied. While the runways were awash in an abundance of trends, luxe pieces that feel great against the skin are the hallmarks of spring style and easily transition from day to night, beach to city.

#1 Outfit choice for Spring – White dress that works for day and night

Spring fashion is best epitomized by the casual elegance of the Hamptons, where chic style meets a relaxed environment. Natural fibers like cotton, linen, and silk feel divine and drape beautifully while classic clothing styles are easy to personalize with unexpected twists, allowing an outfit to feel both fresh and timeless. Nautical style is an enduring look that works at any age and is ideal for the chic yet breezy atmosphere of a destination like the Hamptons.

Daytime fashion for spring is defined by ease and lightness. Emerging from the cocoon of winter allows for vivid colors and simple shapes to take center stage. Rolled khakis and a striped teeare the perfect daytime partners; these pieces can be worn in any color, cut, and material and provide both ease of movement and a sense of refinement. Blue-tinged denim paired with a white blouse is a simple way to take part in the color blocking trend while still retaining a classic, nautical style; throw on a relaxed blazer for a bit of polish. Patent leather boat shoes are the ultimate finishing touch for a dose of warm weather fun.

#4 Outfit: Classic knit paired with a pastel skirt

While daytime fashion is about ease and relaxation, enchanting spring evenings are the perfect time to don clothing that exudes chic sophistication. The little white dress has become a mainstay of the wardrobe, and an evening dinner is its time to shine. Paired with accessories like a statement necklace or a colorful clutch, this breathtakingly simple piece can adopt a variety of personas. A long dress in striped silk, a pastel short suit, or a lace pencil skirt paired with a silky pajama top are other excellent options for evening dinners.

#5 Outfit: Fun party dress

While the trend of florals for spring is certainly not shocking, the riotous explosion of color and print that designers like Mary Katranzou have embraced is fresh and invigorating. A bold floral print brings life and energy to a girls’ night out or cocktails with friends. If the unusual shapes or mixed prints of these unique pieces seems too daring, tone down the look with darker shades like those seen at Burberry Prorsum or stick to one floral piece at a time, pairing it with neutral separates. And for a night out with the girls? Always, always wear heels.

A Tropical Day- Behind the Scenes……

515551068515591084

I had the most fabulous photoshoot today with awesome Scottish designer, RowanJoy, gorgeous and hardworking model, Ashleigh Bradshaw, the best hairstylist EVER, Roy Rogers and his amazing assistant, Dean and last but not least the most talented photographer, Paul Marr. We all had such a fun day with lots of laughs, makeup, hair and outfit changes- 8 in total!!! Think ‘Tropicana’ and you will get a small insight into the theme for this shoot. I had so much fun with the makeup today and I got to use all my new Inglot eyeshadow colours! As you can see from the photo below I got very creative with the eyeshadow and discovered that Inglot eyeshadow is so amazing that when I blended the orange into the turquoise it turned purple!!! It was sooooo cool, I honestly squealed in delight, hee hee.

photo

I can’t wait until I see the photos from this shoot, they are going to be amazing! Lots of contrasting colours, one of my favourites being yellow and turquoise! I even made my own lipstick colour for this shoot by mixing 3 different lipsticks together to achieve the perfect spring/summer colour.

To end the shoot we photographer a few of Rowan’s beautiful wedding dresses so the makeup got taken back to basics with a dewy/glowy base, pretty pearly, lilac eyeshadow, black classic flicked eyeliner and pink matt lips. I got a chance to use my MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in ‘Blonde’ and it looks incredible on cheeks as a blush and highlighter all in one. Below is a little sneaky peek of the make up from the wedding photoshoot.

Ooooo.. and I have some more very, very exciting news… Rowan has named one of her dresses in her new collection after me!! Eeeeek!! How exciting is that! I can’t wait to show you all the dress once the photos have all been edited.

Anyway, I had better go as I need to finish packing my bag for Africa, I leave in 2 days time.. not long now. My next blog will probably be coming to you from Capetown. Meanwhile here is my newest makeup tutorial, just in time for Valentines Day. Make Up look number 7 in my ‘Around the World in 80 Make Up Looks’.

Bright Pigment Photoshoot!

Good day makeup lovers!

Whilst in NYC I did a photoshoot involving blue and red MAC pigment. This was a very experimental shoot as I had no idea how I was going to achieve the effect I wanted with the pigment. We all had such a fun time blowing, flicking, tapping and brushing on the pigment to end up with the final outcome, which included an extremely messy bathroom. *NOTE* MAC pigment dyes the grout in between tiles on a bathroom floor. whoops! I am sure you can see from this photo how much fun we all had, a lot of ‘smyzing’ (I have no idea how you spell this, but Tyra is always mentioning it) and laughs. I imagine the photo above depicts a couple who have had a fight with some paint, or as suggested to me- a blue pen! Issac, Kate and Atim were all star models on the day considering I was being so experimental with the pigments.

The photos turned out just how I imagined with the help of my amazing photographer- Jessica Lin- and I thought that I would share them with you.

colourweb (1)web (6)web (3)  web (5)

Kate

The makeup underneath the pigments was kept very natural and fresh by using Make Up Forever HD Microperfecting Primer and HD Foundation. A light dusting of Laura Mercier Universal Invisible Powder was used to ensure the flawless base remained in place and also to combat any shine. Touche Eclat by Yves Saint Laurent was used under the eye area, around the nose and corners of the mouth.  MAC ‘Brule’ eyeshadow was applied to the eyelids and Urban Decay ‘Naked’ eyeshadow was blended into the crease line for added definition. MAC cream highlighter in ‘Pearl’ was applied under the brow bone and the brows were defined with Benefit Brow Zings. No eyeliner was used just a coat of Victoria Secrets FX Voluptuous Mascara to finish off the look. HD blush #14 was blended into the apples of the cheeks for a fresh, natural look and a small amount of foundation was applied to the lips for a natural, nude look.

Atim

For Atim’s makeup I used Make Up Forever Camouflage Palette 4 and a small amount of HD primer to mix a perfect colour to match her skin tone. Since Atim already had such amazing skin I merely covered any blemishes and left the rest of her skin natural. Using Benefit MoonBeam I highlighted the higher planes of Atim’s face so that the light would catch on these. I used Inglot #395 pearl eyeshadow to highlight the inner corner of her eye to create a bright eyed and fresh look. A coat of Victoria Secrets FX Voluptuous Mascara was also applied. For Atim’s lips I really wanted them to match the red pigment on her face so after applying Make Up Forever red lipstick I dabbed on the MAC red pigment for a gorgeous, matte lip. So jealous of Atim’s amazing lips!!

Issac is gifted and has one of the most symmetrical faces that I have ever worked with! From looking at the photos you would think that I evened out his skin tone but, no, he natural looks that amazing! I just applied pigment to his face, shoulders and chest.

Check out that symmetry…… WOWZERS!
