With New York Fashion Week well underway I thought I would show you guys the trends for fall/winter 11 makeup as seen on the catwalks and my tips on how to create them……..
This is part of Alexander Wangs‘ collection, as you can see the makeup has been kept very natural with pink/nude lips, dewy flawless skin, strong brows and black eyeliner at the outside corner for a wide eyed look.
Calvin Klein goes for the bare minimum keeping makeup ‘au naturel’. Fresh, highlighted skin, mascara and a natural lip colour makes this look perfect for when you are in a hurry. Apply a light foundation or tinted moisturiser to your skin, Bourjois ’10 hour sleep effect’ foundation, Bobbi Brown Moisturising Foundation or Laura Mercier Tinted moinsturiser would all be perfect for this. Apply highlighter along your cheekbones, on your brow bone and down the centre of your nose for a dewy finish. MAC cream highlighter in ‘Shell’ or ‘Pearl’ is my fav for doing this! ‘High Beam’ by Benefit is also a fab liquid highlighter. If these are too pricey then you can use a shimmery light eyeshadow instead. Add some mascara and natural lippy and you are ready to go! I love this very subtle peach colour seen on the Calvin Klein catwalk, if you are looking for your perfect nude lipstick try MyFace cosmetics.
Anna Sui brings back the 1960’s unblended dark crease line but gives the look a modern twist by moving it slightly higher up. A bright highlighted eyeshadow in the inner corner of the eye and lots of mascara finish off this look.
A stronger plum coloured lip is seen in Carolina Herrara’s stunning collection. The foundation is slightly heavier and matte but still has the highlighted cheek and brow bones as seen in Calvin Klein. If you foundation is looking to shiny use a light powder on top to make it look matte. I am a huge fan of ‘Hello Flawless’ by Benefit or ‘Universal Invisible Powder’ by Laura Mercier. Collection 2000 powder can be found in Superdrug and Boots and is a cheaper alternative. This look has the defined brows that have featured on many of the NYFW catwalks, simple black eyeliner along the top lash line, a sweep of mascara and a deep rough blusher under the cheekbones for added contouring. A perfect blusher for this look is ‘Fever’ by MAC as featured in my ‘September must-have’s’ makeup tutuorial on youtube. Go easy with this blusher though as a little goes a long way!
Diane von Furstenbergs’ collection also features the strong lips that are one of my favourite trends for fall/winter 11, this time a gorgeous red. GOSH does a perfect red lipstick for this look and can be found in most highstreet drugstores. Again as seen on the Alexander Wang catwalk eyeliner and eyeshadow have been applied to the outer corners and blended outwards giving an oriental feel to the makeup.
J’adore the makeup seen on the Donna Karen catwalk! Its bright, colourful and really fun. The contrasting orange eyeshadow and pink lips is a great look this autumn. Bella Pierre does lots of awesome colours of eyeshawdow including a perfect orange for this look. For the lips MAC ‘Saint-Germain’ lipstick is an exact match! Again the eyebrows are kept heavy and well groomed for this look.
Issac Mizrahi encorporated the orange autumnal colours into a statement lip keeping the rest of the makeup natural. The brows are strong and defined ( this is a definite must have for this autumn/winter).
The makeup worn by the models on the Jason Wu catwalk focuses on an awesome metallic, winged statement eye. The eyebrows in this look have been bleached placing emphasis on the eye makeup ( i don’t suggest you all go and dye your eyebrows for winter though). One of my top secret tips to make your eyes look bigger and to make them ‘pop’ is to apply a highlighting eyeshadow on the inside corner of the eye and also just above the pupil on the eyelid. You can see this technique used here. The key to thins look is to keep the rest of your makeup very nude and natural.
Last but by no means least is Marc Jacobs. The strong brow, highlighted complexion and simple eyes was featured on the models in his collection but what made this makeup stand out to me was the interesting placement of blusher. By placing blusher so far below the cheekbones, a natural looking flushed but contoured face is achieved. I love this look and will definitely be applying my blush like below! ‘Peaches’ by MAC is a perfect blusher to create this look.
